October Trial

We had absolutely glorious weather for our Autumn trial. The leaves are starting to turn and the scenery was wonderful at Blob's Park this past weekend. Cool, but comfortable temps and sunshine had the dogs running fast and the handlers smiling. Our judge Corey Wadja brought some really fun and challenging courses for us to try. Many of us were quite successful, those of us that weren't still had a blast.

A big part of the October trial is the gigantic raffle. Something like 100 baskets over the course of two days, carefully compiled by Pat Moloney-Harmon and her awesome basket-making elves from generous donations made by several people over the year. It is a tremendous undertaking and is critical to getting much needed donations for our equipment fund. Over the two days of the trial we received over $800 to put toward new equipment to keep our dogs running happy and safely! Thank you to all who donated, put together baskets and helped to run the raffle. And thanks to those who bought tickets to try their luck. Some of you buy MANY and it is definitely appreciated. Pivotal in making this year's raffle a success was PAWZAZZ Pit Crew Ruth Houser, who not only almost single handedly kept the raffle going, but bought a ton of tickets and had tons of loot to take home back to Florida! Good thing she won the big bag as well to lug home all of her goodies that she didn't share with friends.

Ruth is looking festive in her horns

When they weren't busy running dogs or working their tails off, several club members were participating in puppy playtime with their new teammates. There is a huge crop of baby dogs getting ready to start intro class in the Spring! Deb Baracco and Spy, Phyllis Hayden and Beamer, Patty Kimball and Elli, Charlotte Idleman and Torrey, Val Embrey and Carly and Sam Lietz and Squeak all took part in the fun!  What a great group of puppies!

Squeak catches Carly by surprise!

Speaking of baby dogs, we had some big debuts at this trial as well. First time handlers as well as seasoned handlers with their young dogs made their impact on the agility world. Welcome to the madness Beth Strother and Keegan, Ralph Corey and Buster and Susan Eiss and Jessie!

Keegan is flying!

Ralph and Buster running well

And taking the agility journey full circle, Mary McGlannan and Roscoe ran their last runs in competition. Mr Roscoe is now retired from agility but will continue working with Mary doing Nosework, which Roscoe loves!

NADAC Championships and Top Ten Success!

We had one intrepid club member make the trek all the way to UTAH to compete  at NADAC Championships this year. Jean Wilkins drove thousands of miles and came home with lots of loot for her trouble! We are very proud of her for performing so well with both Zephyr and Kopper and for taking 2nd place in the Open Large dogs All Around division and for WINNING her Double-Digit Veterans division this year!!! On top of that, Kopper was the #1 dog in NADAC for 2012, with a whopping 3,220 points!  WOW!! Way to go Jean and Kopper.

Though PAWZAZZ was not heavily represented at Champs, our presence was still felt heavily in the yearly top ten awards for 100+ Run Indexes. For those that don't know, to achieve a 100+ run index, your dog must be running in the fastest 5% of all the dogs currently competing in NADAC. That is some smokin' fast runs! And the number of times some of these dogs has done this is just mind blowing. What an amazing group of dogs and handlers on those lists.

Top Ten Lifetime 100+ Run Indexes

2nd Place - Paula Goss and Trae with 464
3rd Place - Tom Moloney-Harmon and Piper with 398
5th Place - Tom Moloney-Harmon and Maddie with 339

Top Ten 100+ Run Indexes for 2012

1st Place - Paula Goss and Trae with 107
3rd Place - Tom Moloney-Harmon and Piper with 88
6th Place - Deb Baracco and Jet with 59
9th Place - Pat Moloney-Harmon and Beckham with 43
10th Place - Debi Hutchinson and Gabe with 42

And last, but certainly not EVER least is the one and only Mighty Maddie. She is the #1 dog in all of NADAC for lifetime points with a mind boggling 23,875 points!! She truly is a legend.

Congrats to everyone, we are lucky to train and compete alongside such talented and inspiring teams.

Tails Up!

Tails Up was a blast this past weekend! We had some beautiful weather, though it did get a bit warm on Sunday. We are still getting used to being outside again, so there were a couple of sunburns and very white legs making a reappearance for 2012. The crew down in Chesapeake, Virginia are always great fun, we were done early on Saturday so we got to take part in an epic Yappy Hour. It was the best one yet! Tons of food and tasty beverages. Sam even brought a chocolate fountain! We are never short on decadent treats for sure.

Judge Chris Nelson brought some fun courses and his usual charm. Perhaps it was that that inspired the ladies of PZ to do so well! There were some big accomplishments and a lot of big ribbons being handed out. Big congrats go out to:

Paula Goss and Trae: Versatility Medal-4!!

Sam Lietz and Schatzi: Versatility NATCH-3!!

Nicole Bailey and Jinn: Novice Triple Superior!!

Priscilla Warnock and Robey earned their very first title, Novice Tunnelers!!

It was a wonderful weekend, we always look forward to seeing the Tails Up group and spending the weekend with such a fun, welcoming crowd. It is also fantastic that Tails Up is working so hard to bring EGC to the East Coast. It is much appreciated! We look forward to coming down again in November.

Big achievements at All About Animals!

The weather was perfect for agility, chilly, overcast and the dogs were LOVING it! The trial was small, but the successes were huge. Janet Ooms brought some fun and challenging courses and PZ dogs did not disappoint. Way to go teams!

Tom Moloney-Harmon and Piper - NATCH-13/Versatility NATCH-13!!

Leanne Lohmeyer and Cody - NATCH-S-2!!

And congrats to PZ friend Cathie Cage and Clayton for a drop dead gorgeous Jumpers run that earned them their Medal /Versatility Medal!!

She isn't ready to run with those big guns yet, but Jinn Bailey finished her Superior Novice Regular and Superior Novice Jumpers titles on Saturday and blew her Mom away by nailing all her Open runs the following day when she moved up!! Good job baby Jinn.

Another baby dog wowing the crowd was Suz Sullivan's Phoenix. He is looking AMAZING running with Debi and obviously enjoying every second of it! He brought home some pretty Q ribbons this weekend.

March Trial

It started out a bit gloomy and rainy. We had to make some changes in the normal parking arrangements due to some messy mud, but we ended with beautiful, sunny weather and as always big smiles and great food.

Judge Dwayne Bonker brought some interesting courses, but the teams were up to the challenge! So many beautiful runs at this trial, it was great to see some new teams really coming together, to see established teams looking great and to see teams that have been sidelined by injury make a beautiful comeback. It sure was nice to see Lynn and Asher tearing up the courses again.

There was a particularly fast and fun tunnelers course on Saturday. Big smiles from both dogs and handlers on that one. There were six dogs over 8 YPS on that course and one even reached 9.10 YPS!! Amazing!

As usual Debi Hutchinson was handling about 100 dogs. No idea how she manages to fit it all in and run so well with so many different sizes and personalities. She ran her own dogs and also was a superb rent-a-handler for Phoenix, Keli and Mr. Phancy Pants Phantom. There were some beautiful runs with each of these dogs. Way to go Debi!

We had 4 big debuts at this trial as well. Those teams are just starting out, but already showing so much promise! Each one earned their first Q at their first trial. Way to go!

Lindy and Remi

Judy and Pebbles

Brian and Chick

Doug and Cassie

Because everyone was running so well, the competition for High in Trial was fierce. Those that earned the ribbons at this trial had perfect or near perfect weekends. WOW! Impressive performances by all 3 teams.

HIT teams from L-R: Open - Joan and Lucy, Novice - Anne and Nelle, Debi and her magical path-drawing crayon, Elite - Jean and Kopper

And possibly the biggest brag of the whole weekend... Paula Goss and both her dogs got to the trial on time on Sunday!! We are proud of you Paula! :) In all seriousness, it was a fun weekend and we can't wait to see you all again in May. Mark your calendars for the 26-27!
